Today, we planted sixteen eucalypt trees in this area of the Ekibin Creek Bushcare SCRUB site. A few months ago we had cleared away a thicket of lantana which was also infested with Madeira vine (Anredera cordifolia). These weeds had smothered a number of wattle trees and had left the area in a pretty degraded state. The new trees should grow quickly and, with luck, will shade out any regrowth of the lantana. The three species of eucalyptus, which include Tallowwood (Eucalyptus microcorys); Grey Gum (Eucalyptus propinqua); and Fine-leaved Red Gum (Eucalyptus seeana) should all provide valuable fodder for koalas in a few decades time.
