Through a bit of misadventure, we (the ’three squared’ group of 9 cyclists) ended up having a hard ride at the end of the day to beat the sun going down. We had a pleasant ferry tour of the Coorong in the morning (with some NZ Fur Seals), but this meant that we really didn’t get started until after midday with a 140km ride to go, along with a stiff headwind. But we managed to get the bunch working well, with David giving a boost to our slower riders so that they didn’t fall off the end. Our speed actually increased towards the end, near Kingston SE. So this meant that we finished not long after sundown. Tomorrow we have a little further to ride (181 km), but we’ll be able to pace ourselves over the day much better.
